A Death in the Family.
« on: April 26, 2021, 12:12:33 PM »
Hey y'all. Tragic news today. Last night a giant tree fell down onto the backyard. We checked this morning, and unfortunately, my 2010 Weber Performer was smashed by the fall. The kettle looks salvageable but the cart got completely totaled. Thankfully, none of my other grills were harmed but it still really sucks as the Performer was my workhorse grill for over a decade. So, I am making this memorial post to a grill that cooked incredible food for over a decade and valiantly gave its life to save the rest of the backyard. RIP.
NOTE: Just also discovered my Deep Ocean Blue 2019 Master Touch fell over and got a big dent and porcelain chip in it. It can be fixed but that really bugs me.

I think I might need a bigger backyard soon...

No, we're all ok, thank you for asking! It didn't hit our house thank God, it landed right in front of the back porch.

Glad all are ok, grills can be replaced.  Sorry to hear about that.....I've got many grills, but the one I'd hate to lose has been with me for 15 years and is nothing super beautiful but the relationship is there....  Good luck with the cleanup.

Thanks man! Yeah, I had the Performer for a long time, so it really sucks to see it go like this. IIRC, its last cook was some awesome ribeye steaks a couple weeks ago so at least it had a worthy farewell. I'm definitely glad our house or most of the other grills weren't hit. On the bright side of things, the oak tree that hit it (at least I think its oak) can provide a lot of great fuel for future cooks, and it gives me an excuse to finally go hunt down a Cobalt Blue Performer as a worthy successor.
(Come to think of it maybe the oak tree smashed my grill as revenge for burning up its brethren as fuel! XD)

UPDATE: So after looking over it closer the Kettle itself from the Performer is actually in shockingly good shape. There's a small dent or 2 in the lid but that'd be easy to fix. Same with a few pieces of the cart. So, It may not be as bad as I first thought...

Happened to me a year ago, too.  My performer met its maker.
Hopefully you can salvage it.
