1969 'chief restoration/resurrection.
« on: March 18, 2021, 03:05:23 PM »
I found this '69 patent pending chief bowl and lid for sale in the middle of the USA.
Have always wanted a coppermist 26er, so a spur of the moment purchase was made and it was heading all the way to Australia.

Unfortunately copped a few extra dings on the way over, but that just adds more character.

Am planning on getting this grill back to at least usable condition. Would Ultimately love to get it back to 100% original, but 60s/70s 26" parts are incredibly hard to find.
Have organised some newer 26"parts from weber to get it back up and cooking, and I hope to gradually find those rare parts over the years.

What did you do to get the inside of the lid so clean?   It looks brand new.

I just used the scraper pictured above to get the 3mm of heavy build up off. Then used oven cleaner and a pressure washer
Came up brilliant

All hail the Chief, nice RRR work
Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Beautiful grill.  The brave/warrior/Chief lineup is my favorite.   Good hunting for the period correct parts.

Well some (non period correct) parts arrived and I ended up getting this big old girl on her feet again.

Also had to replace the timber handle, the OG one was way too far gone.

Isn't perfect but is beautiful 🤎🤎🤎🤎
