1979 A-code Woodard Weber Cart
« on: July 09, 2017, 01:47:22 PM »
Nice thing about meetups, people bring some cool stuff to trade or sell. @YardBurner carried this woodie wagon up for me to check out yesterday, and it stayed here. My wife and I just had some other Woodard pieces powdercoated, and we'll do this to match. 18.5" bowl is in excellent shape, as is the cart. The lid - well...we"ll see. Someone did a rattle can job on the whole cart and lid before Rob rescued it, but fortunately spared the bowl. Nevertheless, here's some before pics.

And here's the color combo we'll end up with.

Can’t wait to see this restored! How many Woodard pieces are you up to?

OK, now what? The bowl vents are B-code, so is this a 1980 with a '79 lid? Either way, it's all good. Did a 20-minute clean up of the bowl before heading to the airport. Straightened out a couple vent tabs. Cleaned up nice, but I need to spend more time on the daisy vents. They all operate just fine, but are a little pitted.

It's weird that the kettle doesnt have tabs and no leg sockets. My drop in has leg sockets and tabs. Dafuq

Congrats on your latest kettle Marty.  Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I seem to remember lots of mismatched date code kettle popping up around here. Especially SJs.
Wanted: Burgundy 18"

I don't think that the Woodard kettles ever had the tabs. I think Woodard just basically got weber kettles and used the handles as support. I don't know about the leg sockets though.

Boy, that thing cleaned up nice!
Did not notice the "B" on the bowl vents.
Wonder if it's a replacement or if Woodard just
slapped an 18 lid with an 18 bowl and didn't
care what the codes were.
Odds are the part just lived along an assembly line
and they stuck in the bowl then the grates and slapped on a lid.

As for leg socket, I don't think I've ever seen a Woody with the original
bowl with leg sockets.  Replacement bowls, yes.
Just like on a Sequoia.  No sockets.
