Picked up a nice 78 Red MBH
« on: July 29, 2020, 11:52:45 AM »
Just picked this up today.  The porcelain is in beautiful shape.  I see a few minor scuffs on the lid but no porcelain missing and I don't believe there's any rust around the handles.  The handle is worn but looks like it can be freshened up.  One of the rivets is missing and it was replaced with a screw.  May replace the handle.  At initial look, bottom of the bowl looks very good. Should all clean up nicely.

I thought you had a red 22 mbh ? @WNC
Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

I've got a NIB red 18" (EO 1995 if I remember correctly), but not an MBH.  I've also got 22" and 18" black MBHs.  This is my first red MBH.

Thanks. Not quite mint, but pretty good considering age and the fact that it wasn't owned by a collector.  I think it was just sitting for quite some time.

I wish I could find my birth year, but I guess I'm too friggin old.  Born in 67.

I had to go downstairs and check whether I had a ‘78 for you.  Close but no cigar.  Any interest in a ‘77 red MBH?

Cleaned it up a little more. Still need to do the bottom (tray, legs, triangle, etc.) but I really do like this grill. Thinking maybe a new handle. I really only keep one 22” on the patio at a time and I’m thinking this might need to be my new 22” cooker. Plus it looks pretty cool next to the new glen blue. So I plan to be putting something on the block here shortly. Something comes in, something must go out. [emoji853]

Might consider a little tung oil on the handle.  Will probably make it look new again.  Love these reds.....

Thought about it but the rivet is gone so I might just replace with a look alike. Will definitely keep this older handle and clean up for reuse.
