Issue with bottom vents/one-touch?
« on: May 30, 2020, 01:02:01 PM »
Just got my 26er and I noticed the one-touch cleaner is warped.   It doesn't sit flush with the bowl on 2 of the 3 "wings" (for lack of a better term).  Is this worth a warranty claim?  It makes it hard to clean and I'm worried about temp control.

That won’t work. Did you pry under them?

Regardless you need to fix it by replacement or maybe you could try dismantling and bending back.

I didn't do anything to them.   Not sure why they're like that.  I'm going to write Weber.

The blades are numbered.
1 goes on first followed by 2 and 3.
I would remove the assembly and check to be sure they are in the right order first. If they are in the correct order I would then bend them down slighty towards the bowl and test fit them before installing the rod and locking it in. Pretty easy fix.

Thank you.   I guess just Google instructions on doing this?

No need to google it.
Turn the bowl over on a peice of cardboard or other safe for porcelain surface(no concrete, gravel or blacktop). Then you can push down on 1 tab of the locking H washer with a flat blade screwdriver while twisting the handle. Rotate handle 180° Then slide the handle out, remove the sweep assembly check the numbers change the order if necessary,  tweak blades, test fit and reinstall.

Thank you.  Is that colour on the blades normal after a few cooks?

I'm mostly disappointed.  Been loving the kettle so far.

The blades are stainless steel and the cooking grates are too.
The sweeps will be grayish/brownish after using them for a while. They will last a very long time though. Once you get the blades straightened out I am sure you will be happy. I love my 26.

Thanks.  Would hot lump charcoal falling through the grate and smothering the blade warp the blade?

No. Lump will not warp it.
However if lump falls through the grate and then gets caught in the one touch slots the blades will not cut through it like it will traditional charcoal. A lot of people will use expanded metal in a 26" or add a second charcoal grate to criss cross and make squares instead of slots in a 22" to prevent lump from falling through.

I have also seen built up ash and grease spring the sweep blades up.

Scrape the bowl sides to be sure there is no buildup.
