Bluegrass Boiler

Picked up this 18 today on marketplace $35. She's an H code, handles are intact and sweeps broke free pretty easily, I am looking forward to cleaning her up and then putting her in the rotation. Great day... finally got a red 18.

Nice Red Mist, don't see too many of those in 18

That looks like it should clean up nicely.
I have the same kettle, we use it for baking pies in the summertime.

NICE!

I always like the way 18s look.

Is the J hook pan true to a 86? It also has clips on the legs?

Yes the clips are correct. They are to keep the ashpan from coming off and flying away during windy conditions.
When positioned correctly there is one half of the clip is under the pan and the other half goes over the pan.

I always figured it was easier to position the clips (the entire clip) underneath the pan & wedge it all the way up so the pan can move no further, then adjust the clips a bit to get it out.

This is the way I've always done mine. Can't go no higher, can't go no lower.
