curious, as i've been a bit spread thin and not as active around here as I'd like....

How do you know it's a 56?

triangle ash pan, red wheels, steel legs, welded handles, chicago vent, rubber wheels, and plenty of research and posted pictures of it before and craig and duke also can help confirm. all I'm doing is posting updates as I was asked to do so. also been in touch with weber as well  and am sending pics to them when done cleaning it (which im doing in between crazy work shifts). but as described to them they helped confirm as well. and the guy i purchased it from was originally a chicago native and he said he had bought it in 56 original owner he was in his mid 70's to 80' age.

I'm going to have to ask for a nice closeup beautyshot of that lid vent!  ;)

Looks sharp Zork! :D Did you use Pam or Avocado oil on the bowl and lid! It really shines!

Isn't that just going to burn off, the oil on the kettle?
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

It looks great. I wasn't casting doubt or anything, just curious if there were facts that aren't documented on the age page.

yeah it will probably burn off but due to the age I think I've done all the cooking I will on this one. this will be a looker not a cooker.  I did however wipe down the oil and went over it with some liquid wax in the sun for 2 days still loking good.

Another cool thing about this kettle is its the first year of the familiar kettle shape. One year older and it would have the older buoy style lid.

Zork, did you ever weight the bottom bowl (comparing to a newer version)?

zorknards2

no I hadn't weighed it. I need a better scale to do that or take it to ups lol
