Speckled Galley Que found
« on: June 16, 2013, 12:09:34 PM »
Ok...so many of you know I've been dropping hints of a rare grill I found, that would be shown at the WKC get together event on the 15th.
I found this grill under a somewhat obscure search I had on Ebay.  I knew it was a Weber, but have never seen a Galley Que like this in any Weber catalog, or in anyone's collection.   It had a BIN, so I bought it.  Its not a perfect grill...did have some chips and light surface rust, but I carefully sanded them down, primed them, and hit them with a 1500 degree BBQ black paint.  It blended very nicely and looks much better.
Here is a link to the original listing and a brief history of the grill
http://www.ebay.com/itm/vintage-1960s-marine-charcoal-stantion-mount-round-smoker-grill-boating-sailing-/261210055463?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=7GnztacNixiFUPGD5DN%252BsUQQzDw%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Here's a vent pic for you Marty

One thing I noticed that I've never seen before, even on my blue Galley Que, is the special charcoal grate.  It has slots in it to attach to the grate straps in the bowl to keep it in place from shifting if it was actually being used on a boat.

The next picture shows the bracket used to mount from the swing bracket on the bowl, to a post on a boat.  I'm pretty sure this bracket is original with the grill as I've seen it in one of the old Weber brochures somewhere

Long lost brothers reunited!  One of them has much taller legs than the other.

Another vent picture for you Marty.

Not sure if this is an original cover for the grill...but it looks old enough to be and sure fits nice.

Hope the hype wasn't too much on this one!

Great photos - and thanks for the vent shots. I'm sure the canvas must have been original to the grill - whether or not it was made by Weber is another story, but something that can be researched. I loved seeing this one in the flesh, not to mention all the others. So what's your best guess as to the year?

Based on the style of vent handle, legs, and ash catcher...I'd have to put it near 1960 like the original Galley Que.

Yeah, it does look like some of the older camping gear I've got....but I think this one's going to have to be screaming "High Seas " !!!!!
