Hi, wondering if anyone has any tips on preventing the one touch cleaning system blades from bending up. I've had to remove the one touch a couple of times now and bend back the blade and reinstall.. I think some small pieces of lump get caught between the vent hole and the blade and it bends the blade up. Not the end of the world but wondering if anyone else has that issue

Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

With OT grills I'd only use briquettes for this reason. Or replace your sweeps every season as they won't ever seal right after they are bent.

@imora .  Yes, it is definitely more common when using lump.

I use lump probably 75% of the time.
To overcome this issue, I use my homemade baskets or place a piece of EM (expanded metal) on the charcoal grate.
Works great!

Is the em on the charcoal grate stainless?  That's a really cool and easy mod. I really need to do that. I'm not a huge fan of the double grate and I haven't been using lump because it's generally a pain in the ass for the reason of this topic.

No, not SS. But it doesn't really need to be.
That EM is not expensive.
Metal Supermarkets is the place to go.

A 2nd 22 grate perpendicular to the bottom one will work too.

The Aura charcoal grates are excellent for lump since the tines are slightly closer together than the stock weber charcoal grates.  Anything that falls through are too small to be usable anyways.

Also when using the sweeps and you encounter a resistance, just back it off and slowly slide it back forward. Repeat as necessarily until the piece of lump falls in the ash can.
