Smokey Joe Platinum
« on: June 10, 2019, 08:47:15 AM »
Picked up a Smokey Joe Platinum N code yesterday for $15!  No pics yet but features original wood handle and a single chip.  Could use new cook grate and charcoal grate.  Has anyone had experience with KillaGrilla cook grate for the SJP?

After a more careful examination, this Outrider definitely is a cooker and not a looker.  The leg attachment points on the bowl all have chipped off porcelain.  The good news is that after a session with the weed burner and wire brush, the cooking grate is in serviceable condition.  Current parts pricing as of today from Weber CS:  66913 cook grate, $26.36; 65949 charcoal grate, $18.70; 86820 legs, $6.15 each.

Painted the legs with a few coats of Rustoleum High Temp Aluminum after a lengthy session with a wire wheel.  Replacing leg mounting hardware with SS equivalents.

The good thing is you shouldn't really notice the chips by the leg attachments much during normal use.  For the charcoal grate, I'd hold off on buying a replacement.  Use a spare, even from a smaller kettle, to cross the grates and you should be fine.

When set on the ground, these are actually a pretty decent height that allows you to easily "tend to the grill" while sitting in a lawn chair having a beer.
