New to the Kettles
« on: May 19, 2019, 03:34:56 AM »
Hey all
Just got myself a kettle classic and a wireless Napoleon ACCU-PROBE. I find it hard to hold temp on the kettle but I think my biggest problem is probe placement.
Where do you put the probes? Right on the grate maybe a clip or a little bit of tinfoil? Do you run the wire under the lid?

Any other newbie advice welcomed and appreciated
Thanks

Welcome aboard.

Mine came with grate clips.
But I guess you could make one out of aluminium foil.

I use clips.

Foil works too.

Another trick in a pinch is to get a potato, cut it in half, put the flat side on the grate and drive the probe through it.

Not to sound like a smartass, but don’t get wrapped in all the gadgets. Just learn the kettle and fire management.

I don't use temp probes in my kettle...I realize that lid temp is not the same as grate temp but it's a great indicator of what's going on...The more you use your kettle the better your fire management will be and you'll be less dependent on digital gear...

Worked much better with the probe in some tinfoil I like seeing the temp so I have a bit of a baseline to follow
Really liking the Kettle still lots to learn

Do you run the wire under the lid?

I run the wire though the top air vent - works like a charm but you need to take it out in order to shut the vent fully so that you’ve got some coals left for next time.
