Removing rust

Being a noob at restoring grills, I have heard soaking rusted metal parts in distilled vinegar is great at removing the rust and is obviously a lot safer than acids etc.

What do you seasoned vets use for salvageable rusted metal parts, hardware etc?

I started with this






After soaking the wheels overnight they ended up like this,






Anything else is just wasting time....

Thanks, ill check out and see if any of the hardware stores carry that.

I think O'Reilly Auto Parts, Auto zone or Lowes might carry it...
