Legendary story or fable?
« on: January 21, 2019, 08:13:49 PM »
Today, a fellow named Paul Kelly posted the following story on the Facebook site - Weber Kettle Fans.  By his spelling of Webber (sic), I don't believe he is a WKC member.  No photos were provided with the story but some WKC members have asked him to post some.

"So couple of months this ago I was talking to a friend about being on the look out for old Webber's for my drum builds. He told his dad worked for Webber for 27 years. I did a charity que for his kid with cancer. Well he went back home for the holidays and just Facebook me. I think I'm having a heart attack. His dad has a shop 20 x 50 with every color under the rainbow of Webber's in boxes. Boxes of accessories. His dad told him to pick three and give them to me for helping his Grandson. I didn't know Webber made a 36, 48, and 60 inch they were made for a seafood restaurant chain. And he showed me a white one with pig, fish, cow and chicken painted on it. His dad said that was the way they made it.And some Webber's that we're Porto types. When you do good for God you get rewarded."

Here is link to his post for those that do FacebooK:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/weberkettlefans/permalink/982454691952675/

If the story is true, just think what a source the guy's Dad would be for Weber history.

Were they "Webers", or were they "Webbers"...?
Multiple kettles and WSM's. I am not a collector, just a gatherer... and a sick bastard.

My guess is the person who posted the story was bombarded by private messages with offerings and questions regarding the boxed vintage Webers and prototypes.  That or his friends dad heard about the post and had a fit.

And another reason why I left Fakebook a few years ago. Most exciting part of that fairytale was the 20x50 shop.

According to Paul, they're called "Porto types."

All the "Porto types" are now safely ensconced in the secret underground Atlanta volcano lair. Sharks with frickin' lasers, and all that.
