So Monday I look on FB and see an ad for a free Weber grill out at the curb. I contact seller as well as text @mdb240. Seller gets back and I ask if she would wheel it back to the house and it will be picked up later. She said " First come first serve", so I offered her 10.00 to do so. Told her later tonight or tomorrow. At first she said yes but then said whoever gets it first. Mike gets back to me and thought it was an hour and a half from him. When I explained where it was with an address he realized it was 30 minutes away. Luckily for us both he was out with his son. As I was waiting to hear back from her Mike reached out to her and she said its still out there so come and get it. Then replied to me the same thing. about 30 minutes later I get a call and Mike says "I have it in my car".  BIG THANKS MIKE! First year Green MT. She's not perfect but think she will clean up nicely.

I can't begin to express how much I despise "first come gets it" a-holes.  I tolerate (by simply ignoring) the ads where they say its free on the curb, come get it, and leave an address.  But it takes a whole other special kind of jerk to make you contact them and turn down cash to hold it for you.

Oh yeah that green MT will clean up nicely. As with most people soon as that kettle hit the sidewalk they've washed their hands of it. Probably an elderly lady who had some guys move some junk out of her house, she's probably not active or physical so hauling that kettle back in the house ain't gonna happen. Then she would be mad if the person didn't show up. Not an a-hole move just an old person move in my opinion.

Lucky they posted an ad. When I set stuff at the curb it's gone quickly so I never bother with an ad. I find it hard to believe someone would be mad over first come first serve. $10 wouldn't do anything to change someone's mind in my opinion.

Good save. I'd love to find a master touch.

Agreed 👆👆

And, I'd rather not just post my address and have a bunch of people driving by my house.

It's not so much the $$ as it is just being nice.
If someone reaches out to you and politely offers you a kind gesture ($10 or whatever)
then why would you not reciprocate and try to help them out?

I don't mind the first come first serve, but I hate people who don't want to be contacted but won't update the ad when the stuff is gone. Sometimes I will see something nice and wonder how many wasted trips are made when they leave the ad up until it expires.
