Red Mist Question

I picked up this Red Mist K code that cleaned up pretty good. A couple of chips on the lid but not bad .  I added some NOS parts I had stashed away.
  I want to cook on this grill but I really like having  an ash pot to catch the ash and embers .This grill never had one.
I have other grills to cook on ,but should I install one? It would just take tin snips and three screws .

By all means, install it if it will make it more enjoyable for you to cook on. I would advise installing it i such a way that is reversible. Personally I like the metal screws into the leg option: http://weberkettleclub.com/blog/2014/03/03/converting-a-weber-ots-to-otg/

I like the hose clamp option so you don’t put an unnecessary hole in the socket. Enjoy that grill!

Nice kettle!

You should convert it!
You don't need to use screws. You can use hose clamps or wire to fasten the ring to the leg sockets.

This post got me to looking in the basement last night through all my old line construction gear when I was a contractor for the telephone company.

These are stainless steel banding straps and they work like a regular Ty-Wrap (some call them zip ties). If you can get your hands on a few of these they might look good.

They're maybe a 1/4 inch wide, very thin, 304 stamped on them and have great holding strength.

I definitely would not convert it.
Just buy a second kettle with an ash pot.

Santa brought me a couple of goodies. I put them to use. I used  self tapping screws into the three legs .

Also converted  a redhead F code. Fortunately all the tabs lined up so it's just a matter of installing the ash can assembly.
