I think I drove past a 26" brownie today...
« on: November 18, 2018, 02:35:39 PM »
What should I do?
I've done a cold call before and got my yellow but that goes against my nature. But I'd do it again.
I don't have a newer one to offer as a trade.
It might be a 22" but it looked bigger and was definitely brown.
Now what? [emoji848]

You can always leave a note...that has worked for me a few times.  It gives the owners time to debate a decision instead of putting them on the spot.  Can grab a picture and post it?  We can help you as to if it is a 22 or 26.

Thanks for the suggestions!!
Some good ideas. Now I just have to get up the nerve to stop by.
And decide how much to offer [emoji848]
When I got my yellow at first the lady of the house said it wasn't for sale. I said what if the price is right? She said you'll have to ask my husband. Already sensing they weren't anxious to get rid of it and knowing what it could be worth, I offered him $200. We both went away happy! [emoji846]
I'll just have to try to get feel for the situation at the time I suppose.
I'll be able to tell if it's a 26 up close but I'll definitely take pictures if I get it.
Thanks again [emoji112]

I've never knocked on a door, but I've haggled over the bed of a pickup truck in a grocery store parking lot.  Based on that limited experience, I'd start by simply offering admiration for the grill that they've cared for all of these years.  Take away any pressure for an immediate sale.  Likely it has sentimental value, and if you leave some contact info they might be happy to someday pass it off to a kind person who they know will care for it.

...or they might be the greedy sort and ask $100 for it, right then and there!  ;-)

wow!  I gotta keep my open for things that might be for sale even if the seller didn't know it!
Its amazing how quickly one weber kettle turns into more than a dozen!  Always open to grabbing something interesting so let me know what you've got!
