True grey. The bowl and leg sockets are too uniform in grey to be faded black. Speckled lid( sign of fading ) is throwing us all off. First I thought miss matched MBH lid as I have seen plenty that look close to true grey, but the lid  handle strap tells me it is a single screw handle lid vs double rivet handle MBH. I am unaware of single screw black lid that is faded this much.

All in all, I never seen ash sweep kettle this faded. So, my guess is a true grey.
