Vintage BBQ tools (salt and pepper shakers)
« on: November 06, 2018, 03:47:57 PM »
While on the hunt for vintage Webers, anyone else come across interesting old BBQ tools?  I picked up these two sets at different estate sales over the summer. Guess seasoning your food before putting it on the grill wasn't a thing back then.

Those are cool Jim

These aren’t salt and pepper shakers, but fun anyway...

Dude, relax your chicken.

Really like those extended s&p shakers. Don’t think I’d ever use something like that but neat no matter

I've picked up grilling tools that came with grills I've aquired.  Nothing special, and nothing as sweet as those S&P shakers you have.

@bear -  I've never seen a BBQ knife utensil like that.  I've seen old Weber promotional videos where the guy grilling cuts his steaks to see if their done. The knife is pretty cool but how times have changed. Nowadays I think most of us would cringe at the thought of cutting into a steak while on the grill.

@dazzo -  I have one of those vintage BBQ trays and a few more.  I will start another post about the trays as they deserve their own thread.   I believe that design was called "Atomic BBQ". It was around the time of the Jetsons TV show (1962-63).

@Travis - I'm right there with you Travis.  The only utensils I would use in my set would be the spatula or maybe the spoon if I was cooking something in the CI Griswold Dutch Oven.  I have two restaurant quality spatulas I use. One I acquired from an old military base kitchen and the other at an estate sale.  The long handled one was perfect for cooking on my ranch kettle. I've owned them for over 40 years but have no idea how old they really are.

Nice toolage!

Yup, I remember the daze long ago when I used to cut the steak to "check it's doneness". Thank God for new technology!
Multiple kettles and WSM's. I am not a collector, just a gatherer... and a sick bastard.

@Cellar2ful
The knife is not very sharp. I asked the seller about it, apparently in the 60s and 70s in Australia it was commonly used to cut sausages or just release moisture to stop them from bursting

 I now know what the complete tool set looked like that my Salty & Peppy came from.  Found this set on Ebay this week.

My salt and pepper shakers are in much better shape.
