Did some smashed burgers with the grill grate. turned out great. had the grill grate with the flat side up. the grate in the middle was a new one I got yesterday that's why its a different color, it will change after a few cooks.

Question, when using the kettle for grilling burgers, steaks and such, how much time do you really have if you use a chimney full of charcoal?  I am seeing it is really only about 20-25 minutes.

After I thru the lit lump on to the used lump then I put the grate on then the grill grates and I guess it was about 5 min. then I checked the temp of the grill grates and they were about 450 - 475 I have a infra red to check temp then I put burgers on and cooked about 2 min. a side.

Are you asking how long a full chimney lasts once you start cooking?

Plenty of time. Much much longer than 25 minutes. I'd say two hours with a lid on and vents wide open. Longer if your vents are partially closed and cooking lower temps.

Cooking with lid off probably 30-45 minutes peak heat.

And the burgers look great irv. I use my grill grates for smash burners too. They work great. I need a third section.

Is that on a 22?
