Got a text from @blksabbath late yesterday afternoon about a grill he spied in the neighborhood. Set on the curb for trash pickup right by my kids school. 1966-68 thumbscrew, faded black beauty. Original grates, original ashpan. Vents intact and spin. The wheels are replacements, but I like 'em. I'll be putting a Zavod handle on it, and maybe a nice thin coat of flax oil (or perhaps pickle juice, @Lowbrass?) to make that rusty patina shine. I'm thinking this one might stay with me for awhile.

That is a beauty. Nice job. Pickle juice? I guess the acidity would work on the rust.

Sweet Jesus...that things is gorgeous!

I will say that rusty, old faded and weathered black kettles get me excited the same way yellow and glen blue kettles just "do it" for others.

Great save and congrats.

Go with a black walnut handle.

@Bob BQ I'm glad you scooped it up.  That is a good looking beast.  What would the OG wheels look like?  Metal or plastic?

Thanks again for letting me know... I was stoked when I pulled up and it was still there! Got some weird looks from the neighbor who was hanging out on the front porch.

1966-68 would've had steel wheels, I believe.

I've got an oak burl from Brian on mine
