How true is the rumor that red is coming back? Got this from the Brethren website "Last weekend the local bbq supply place had factory reps showing off their stuff. I asked the Weber rep why they stopped making the Red Head. He said that in making the red color that cadnium was a byproduct of the paint and the EPA wouldn't let them do that anymore. He said that next fall they would have red back in their lineup. Not quite the Ferrari red of old but pretty close."

Craig

Well they've tried burgundy and more recently brick red....This should be interesting to see what new red is next. Hopefully it would be an option on a OTG and not just on the Performers.. If a new red 26 were to come out, I'm dropping the money one way or another.

One would think that if they can drive unmanned ATV's around on Mars, somebody could come up with a 'safe' red color........
"If you want it fancy there is BBQ spray paint at home depot for that. "
    Covered, damper-controlled cooking.....IF YOU PLEASE !!!

We need to build a red SS Performer ATV to send up to Mars.  We'll be famous!

Red will be back, blue will be gone.

No real Red and now no Blue...
And how is green still popular enough to still be made?
And it doesn't make sense that the colors that are sold overseas cannot be sold here.
Weber, your strategy is killin' me!

I don't care if you don't like my Avatar, its there for me..

Ship them to china, paint them with good lead paint, then ship them back here. if our government is going to stifle business then then they deserve to lose tax money and jobs to other countries.

AJ, I will take the bone color for sure, but you can keep the Moonlander wheels and euro style handle.   Yuck.

Do we know this for sure? How confident are we about red coming back?

I just bought a 22" red crooked "K" for a restore project. Its in great shape already, so the amount of work wont be too bad, but I will tell you that if I knew for sure new red ones were coming back I may have just gone that route. With a wife, two kids & two jobs I don't exactly have an abundance of time these days.

I like the removable handle bracket. It's probably less prone to rusting

The red that is coming out will probably not be a TRUE RED.
Unless they found some method to make it without violating violating any laws.
I like the idea of a removable handle, just not the shape or style.
It my belief that the reason they rust at all the welded spot is this"

Welding cleans the steel. Really clean.  Clean steel starts to flash rust immediately.  Porcelain coating doesn't stop what is going on under it. Certain climates and the way they are stored increses the rate at which the rust forms.  Its only a matter of time.. Ashes to Ashes as they say..
Enjoy them and rescue any of the oldies whenever you can.  8)

There's no competition, but I do think that the WSM is not all that it could be.
But thanks to the Cajun Bandit, the perfect smoker can be built..
I own their product and think the quality is the best. I with the Stacker was a bit taller, but unless you need to smoke a lot of meat at once, it wil probably work for most people.
I am really considering getting one and setting my WSM free.

Nope. lol

After parts get welded and before they get painted they go through a chemical bath that removes and an all oils and you get 100% clean steel everywhere, not just at a weld. The most likely reason is that the paint cannot get 100% into the seam where the weld is and completely protect that seam from the elements. so over time humidity and the elements start to work at the open, non painted areas between the seam.

if you look at the inside of the lid or kettle bottom where the paint has 100% coverage, you don't see that same rusting.
