Got lucky and found a Patent Pending 18" with metal wheels at an estate sale on Saturday.  It appears to be in very good condition.  It came with a very strange set of tongs that I have never seen before. Has anyone seen tongs like the ones pictured below?    Also are the wheel sizes for the 18's and 22's the same?  I am thinking about using the wheels on this one for my Redhead with the thumbscrews.

Thoughts?

My GUESS is for moving charcoal (whether already lit or to keep your hands clean), just because they don't look like they would work well with most food you might cook on the grill.

Nice find!  Not sure what to tell you on the wheels in terms of whether or not you should switch them but definitely switch out the hub caps.  You can get ones that look just like the originals at any hardware store.

I'd keep the wheels on it, do a very brief clean up and cook, then cook some more on it. Lightly sand the handle then put some oil on it.

Nice score!  She'll be a dandy little cooker.

Those tongs were made by Big Boy. They were originally chrome.

Cool find! Never saw tongs like that. Won't work so well with cooking wings and such, I'd say... :)
Multiple kettles and WSM's. I am not a collector, just a gatherer... and a sick bastard.
