Reflecting on Weber Kettle year 2017
« on: December 14, 2017, 12:12:30 PM »
Others have posted how 2017 has been an awesome year from a BBQ/Grilling perspective.

I will say 2017 has been amazing to me, as I sit at the end of this year I am in awe that I have a 1962 Red Wood Dale, my Lime that I sold to @MrHoss years ago, a Yellow, a Mini Ranch 26er that I fall more in love with every time I use it. More on the newer side I have a Smoke Master-touch and a Red LE, both of which I love. Finally, my grail of all grails the Summit with grilling center.
I have other things but man, I tell you what an amazing year.

What is your story, how was 2017 to you and do you have any goals going into 2018 that you want as far as grills?
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

Good topic Jeff.  As I look at my spread sheet of grills I took the following notes:

-I've got 4 grays, 1 more on the way and 1 going to Oz
-A yellow 18
-2 Brownies
-And a faded black A code that once left and found its way back home

It's been a great kettle year.  I know this will sound crazy but I'm really trying to come up with what I want my end result to look like with this list of grills.  I just don't have the space like some guys to store 20+ grills, yet it's really hard to pick and choose what is staying, going in a trade for something else I want, or going on the for sale board.

Favorite colors, all tied for first place
Gray, Red Mist, Chocolate/Copper Mist
Looking for: Red MBH 26"(The Aristocrat), Chestnut-coppertone (The Estate), Glen-blue (The Imperial), and The Plainsman.

Sums up my year.  For 2018, a 18" cado and a WKC get together on the beach would be nice.

2017 has been a very fulfilling year for me. I joined the WKC on 1/8/17, learned a lot, and eventually purchased 2 OTG Blues, a 1997 & a 2002 this past summer. But in my view the real value the WKC brings is all the information, knowledge of everyone and their willingness to share it. All the info I received such as restoring the 2 Blues, cooking information and other referenced grilling sites, I think has made my cooking experiences more enjoyable and me, a better BBQ chef. Not only has the WKC given me a wealth of information but also the confidence to try to cook competitively. I brought one of my Blues to a steak competition this past September and I had a blast. I placed 25 out of 35, not grate, but I think respectable considering I had no idea what to expect. I also learned even more and plan to compete again in 2018. But I can tell you with 100% assurance, I would have NEVER thought about competing if it wasn't for the WKC.  Thanks everyone and hopefully 2018 will be a terrific year for all of us.

With my house move finally finished this summer, I was freed up to effectively re-join WKC. 10 new grills have come my way since then, some to stay, some to pass on. I can't necessarily keep pace going forward, but my point is that it doesn't matter.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

I cooked lots of good food.
LOL! Same here!!!
I also joined the WKC after about two years of @kettlebb encouraging me to do so. A few weeks later, I picked up my one and only grail (a Statesman) for $20. Mostly, I cooked food and converted 3 more dudes to the kettle by gifting them their own.

I’ll be going out with a bang by gifting my Secret Santa recipient a never-before-seen WKC exclusive gift. (At least I hope it is well received!)

Got my first Kettle this year a Gen 2 performer.
Picked up a OTS black

Sold the black OTS and picked up a Kraft Cheese brick Red OTG
Picked up a new Q1000 that some one had stored and the box got wet. The grates were still packaged in the cardboard.

Picked up a 2 Smokey Joes at Target for $9 each.
Picked up a NIB GGA with wood handles just today!
Started 2017 with one Weber, a Q220 I had bought new in 2012.  Will end 2017 with 7 Webers - 2017 - The year I got bit.  So for those of you keeping score I added 6 grills for only $220 total.
It’s been a fun year. And I’ve learned a lot.

2017 has been a phenomenal year for me. Way too many interesting kettles to even list. Some left the herd to a family and WKC members. Most of them as a gift, and one on a trade.

For the first time, I got to meet up with 2 prominent Canadian members. Bought one kettle off one, and traded kettle with other member. Also, picked up nice blue for another member.

Going forward, I hope the video review of this equipment( ?? ), and this interesting trade half way around the world gets done sometime early next year.
