Weber performer has assist issues
« on: December 11, 2017, 08:53:04 AM »
All right guys, I pick this weber performer up few Months back cleaned it up put a new table on it or use a handful of times but the gas is this doesn’t work I tried messing with a little but I’m not sure exactly what to do I’ve YouTube a few videos. They didn’t tell me much what I do know is igniter clicks....And I can hear gas when I screw on the tank on. Which I’m not sure if that’s supposed to happen. I don’t smell anything though . I can click a bunch of times and nothing happens wondering if anyone had a quick fix or any ideas. I really wanna try out the assist on this ol cooker !!!!!

Did you try turning the gas on and lighting with a match or lighter?  If it lights than it’s an igniter problem.

How long will it stay lite after turning off the tank? Have you tried any other propane tanks or regulators?

Yes , this is the second tank I have tried . It seems to stay on as long as I keep the tank screwed in. Not sure what the hell is going on

Before buying a new igniter, you should pull the tube & clear it out (compressed air or tube brush). Sounds like a spider nest issue. Gas doesn’t flow fast enough for spark to ignite it, but will with a lighter. Plus, it will stay lit a bit after shutting it down. I have to clear the tube a few times a year.

Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn’t?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I’ve amassed a nice collection, but I’m missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

I thought you cleared the tube much more often than that

My 2014 performer had these same symptoms even after buying a venturi brush and cleaning all the parts for the gas assist.  I called Weber and got a new regulator under warranty.  Flame was like new and when I shut it off it went out pretty fast.

IMO, gas assist isn't worth much.  Just get some Weber lighter cubes and use those.
Looking for: Red MBH 26"(The Aristocrat), Chestnut-coppertone (The Estate), Glen-blue (The Imperial), and The Plainsman.

That’s gotta be what’s going on, because I cleaned it out completely , I can see spark. But it won’t light . Now I’m sitting here watching it burn like no other while it’s turned off . [emoji107]

At first I believed gas assist was the end-all/be-all.  that was until I discovered lighter cubes.  They're cheap and work great.  Buy 'em on Amazon for $3.29 right now.

I have s few cubes left , they work wonderful . It’s just been one of those things that’s been bugging me , I wanted it to work like it should , the whole thing was free so I’m not gonna sink any money into it . ( other than the wood for the table I made ) .

Gas assist is nice if you are in a hurry. But I like using the cubes most days. Gas assist I have to set a timer or wait by the grill so I don't forget to shut it off in a few minutes.

The venturi brushes are cheap but before you even invest in one of those try reaming out the tube with a wire hanger.  It solved 90% of my Performer gas assist issues.
