That's an incredible little piece of history in my opinion.  Keep it all together.  Any clue how many of these are out there? Did Weber make any official mention of contributing like that?

My guess is that Weber just offered up a bunch of BBQ's and didn't really consider what they were at that time.

Congrats! Very interesting story. It looks the same as my AU Blue Wave SJG except the Taco handle.

Guessing this is the Blue Wave SJ Premium UK 1128904 and Greenweb has the Blue Wave SJG 40796

Or it maximized a tax write off.

Has anybody ever seen a Disaster Relief Grill like this?
Is this the first time you Fellas have seen one on this site?

hawgheaven

Wow, that is quite unique, and a beautiful piece of history! Congrats on the score!
Multiple kettles and WSM's. I am not a collector, just a gatherer... and a sick bastard.

I hope there will be a few of these popping up in FL and NY....

I've never seen one.  Imagine they ship this grill out, someone opens it up and the chances are they A) don't cook with charcoal and B) have zero idea how rare and cool that grill is and C) that if they shipped a simple black for the disaster relief and put the Wedgewood Blue in one of their restaurants or on EBay they would have gotten a much bigger bang for their buck.

That's an awesome grill.

^^ and that the last thing they can locate from the flood is something to start coals with, or have tongs, or, or ... but yeah it's a creative and potentially perfect cooking solution if, if and if.

If those SJ's were otherwise destined for an accounting write-off of some kind, it's possible they represented a lower cost (on paper) donation on Weber's behalf, or FEMA's.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Registered the grill. She confirmed it's a Blue Wave. Had me go through the box.
There was a box of waterproof matches in the box as well. Guess they thought of everything.
She explained she has one as well, she brought it back from the UK. So she says. LOL
