So I went into my grandpas cooking recipes and dug an oldie but goodie out. I must have 100 binders of hand written recipes from my grandpa.

A little about him he was about 3 when his mom and dad where killed in a horse and biggie accident. He was adopted by his grandparents and when he was old enough he ran away and joined a place that did fireworks displays. Him and a bunch of young guys would do the fireworks, one day his friend fell asleep with a lit cigarette while sitting on fireworks and they went off. Luckily grandpa was not with him as the kid died.

After that grandpa joined the Army WWI. when asked if he could cook he said yes even though he didn't know anything about cooking. Grandpa was a good bullshitter.

When he got out of the military he was a very good cook and move to Illinois where he got a job working on the line for a steakhouse downtown Chicago. After a while he became a cook and an excellent one at that. There was no money in being a cook at that time so he left but never once did he stop cooking throughout his years he wrote many cookbooks for his own personal use.

I am in now possession of them I have decided to start using them more often.

Awesome story and a tasty lump 'o meat!
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Ya grandpa was an interesting guy. We didn't get along to well but when he was cooking we always talked. He had a hard life.
