You guys remember when Ron posted about a crazy old weber kettle he had?

He sent me some pictures so I can help him post them.

They're attached.

I'm so in love with this grill.

It's awesome.  What is he doing with it?

Thanks for showing that Troy!

I finally get to take a closer look at one of those original ash catchers at the bottom. Any idea what year it is? If you ever get it, please keep it like that.  :)

Jeff

Ive heard about the Weber Metal Bros. before, but never saw a grill with it stamped on the vent.  Very cool.  I wonder if that extension or support at the bottom of the front leg is original?

Very very nice old Weber Troy, I hope you get it. You just can't find them that old anymore!

Ha i dont think so Jeff. I think that looks like an addition that someone who loved using their grill added so they could keep using it.

Heyjude

I don't care if you don't like my Avatar, its there for me..

Just didn't think of the "pan" at the bottom as a ash catcher,  that is the entire suppot for the bottom of the legs. I have enjoyed this for years, wonder if it was stored outside in a safe manner, I'm now going to fix the front leg properly, and keep it inside the garage. I want to thank Troy for posting these pix, if anyone has more information on "Weber Bros. Metal Wrks." Chicago, I would like to know. This group is so interesting to read from, glad I had maybe something different to add, I don't know if I can appreciate this as much as some of you, with your past information, but I will take very good care of it. I just heard I can't have it in my office, DAMM!

Troy

Ron if you want you can store it in MY office :)

Thanks again for sharing the photos. It's truly a treasure to see a weber kettle THAT old.

according to the timeline, the classic kettle shape came out in 56
george stephens bought out the weber bros in the 'late 50s'

i would say this grill is a 56, 57, or 58

are the legs aluminum?

Troy

Oh, and thanks for joining and engaging!!! It's an honor to have you here.

Duke

Welcome "rmayeur" thankls for sharing that old classic! Please let us aid you in caring for it. :)

SmoothSmoke

What was the original color?  Red/pink?  Amazing grill!!!

Duke

Troy, do you know if it has only one bottom vent? It doesn't appear to have three. ???

rmayeur

I'm almost positive theres no color change, I think it would show at the edges of the chipped-rusty spots, and I have seen others this color on this site. I believe what I sent to Troy were too large of picture files, I don't know if the color would have changed in this size of file. Yes, only one vent at the bottom, this is something I didn't see myself, and after I cleaned it so well with that can of oven cleaner ( I think my Mother thought that was something that would kill you!), I'm sure there were no repair spots in the bottom of the kettle as if someone would have welded them over. Maybe this is why I thought it was just a smoker, it really doesn't get very hot with all on top vents open, you have to shake, or tap the sides to expose red embers! Again, this is so great to see these comments, thanks to all that have posted.
