@Lemans , my guess is that switching will save you no time or money, in comparison to getting your current tank recertified.  What's more, once you get the 5lb tank recertified, you are golden for a long time.  I grill often, and my 5lb tank lasts me 2.5 years, on average, before I refill.  My last refill cost me less than 3 bucks this year.

Nonetheless, if you really want to switch, several on this board have done it.  I am pretty sure @greenweb did this on one of his SSPs this year, when his SSP was missing the 5 lb tank to begin with.

If you decide not to recertify, nor switch the setup to 1lb tank, but buy a new 5lb instead, this tank is what you would want....

I like my Kettles like my coffee....strong and black.

2019 Black 26" OKP; 2015 Black 22" OKP; 2004 Black SJP; mid 70's Statesman; mid 70's Gourmet, 2017 Black CGA; 2000 Black GGA;

Heyjude

There is a difference in tanks. The Weber one has a flat back on the part that hangs on the cart.
Your best bet is to recertify if possible. Prices vary. I can't find anyone local to me.
If you switch to a newer or 20 lb tank, just change the fitting to an OPD. Its not that hard.
Do a search. This topic has been covered many times.
I don't care if you don't like my Avatar, its there for me..

Take a look at Bisbee, stealthing the one-pound bottle. This uses the newer style regulator and hose.

And I did something similar, just not as nicely done.

Or if it's too much trouble then sell or trade the SSP here. I'm sure you could get something for it.

Lemans, my fellow Yankee fan.  I have an SSP from 1995 that I restored from ground up.. A real propane company will re certify that tank.  That is what I did and it costs about $20.  Just have to find a real propane company
