Curbside scrap kettle save
« on: August 18, 2017, 05:02:19 PM »

Saw this laying out by the curb with free sign so I thought I would grab it and see if I can rehab it and pass it along to someone

That's a keeper. You probly won't see another riveted bowl handle any time soon.
You can't always get what you want....but if you try sometimes you get what you need

Well just dug out the kettle finally scraped off a little of the junk on it to see what was up with the rust it's pretty bad someone had done some patches before this thing was definitely well used

It's got a pretty big hole in the bottom I may try and weld in some patches and reattach the leg sockets it's a c code grill lid is decent but someone used some kind of bolts to reattach the handle tops of the legs where starting to disintegrate a bit inside the leg sockets

Ok so after staring at this rusted out kettle bowl for a couple months wondering if it was worth fixing up I decided this weekend to go ahead and do some patch work on it and turn it into a cooker again so I cut out the worst of the rust welded in some new sheet metal and welded the legs back on reattached the top handle by cutting down some screws and countersinking some nuts in the lower handle so it don’t burn your fingers I also had to add a little metal around some of the vent holes that was rusted away so I could get them to close up all the way anyway here are a few pics of the patching and finished grill and she is as clean as I’m going to get it it’s definitely a cooker not a looker
