@Filibuster - Thanks.  This gives me a 17 year spread to look for.  I will add this to my "Cliff Clavin" Weber factoid spread sheet.  Eventually this question will come up again and I will be able to help out the next inquiring member.

Not so fast grasshoppers

I've got a "G" 18" OTS that has larger intake vents - and the newer style assembly is smaller diameter and does not fully enclose the vents. I beleive @Troy can confirm this as well.

Not a deal breaker but some kettlekweers might be upset.
I cook on: Backwoods Gater, Lang 36, Hunsaker Smokers, Pellet Pro 22" WSM, BGE's, WSM's, Cajun Bandits, PK Grills, Drum Smokers, Genesis Silver C, Weber Q's, Cookshack 008, Little Chief, La Caja China #2, Lodge Sportsman...oh yeah! Weber Kettles! Kamado restoration and pit modification hack!

@swamprb you are agreeing with what we are talking about. Any 18"one touch system vents from the first year thru 1999 are bigger than the ash catcher units.

Picked up a 2007 (DI code) 18" off CL for $15.  Cleaned it up and added a new ash bucket. The bowl vent holes fit easily inside the ash bucket ring.  My friend says it looks brand new so I think she is happy with it. Thanks again for everyone's help.
