Some Restoration Work
« on: July 23, 2017, 06:18:53 PM »
I've been working on restoring my Glen blue the past couple of weeks. It had reportedly sat out in the MI elements the past 30 years and was about to be scrapped. Harris saved it and traded it to me. Here's some pics of the clean up and a few repairs.[/size]
In the wild

Legs had to be cut off

Bent handle and bad socket needed repair

Handle straightened and @zavod44 handle added

Dented socket popped back in place and welded solid

All leg socket thumb screw holes tapped to clear rust

Replacement legs and wheels haven't arrived yet. Still looking for wheels if anyone has a line on a pair of 6" metal ones.

So I got bored and cut down the already shortened old legs and did a mini - mod:

The replacement pan from @Bertl and @Jeff really pops. This mod is only temporary until full size legs and wheels arrive, then she'll be standing proud. I still have a little cleaning to do, and some rust stains to work on. Good times!

That has to be the only GB midget mod in existence.

Nice work, especially with the weld!
Some bar keepers friend works great for dealing with rust stains, but be careful and wear some gloves. I was up in it bare handed one time and it made me quite nauseous ☹️

Awesome restore!  Hope to find a Glen Blue one day (along with everyone else here).  Just gonna have to keep on looking!  Can't wait to see this thing finished!

Thanks guys. I'll have to try some Barkeeper's Friend @WNC . I've been using Whink Rust Stain Remover but it seems if you leave it on just a moment too long it can dull the finish.
