I took it completely apart, sanded down the frame and repainted it with some Rustoleum hammered finish black. Replaced all the hardware with stainless steel fasteners. Replaced the axle with a stainless steel 3/8" rod. I had to replace the ash sweep, ash catcher, and igniter. Wet sanded the stainless steel table and then polished it off with Mothers metal polish. Ordered a new cover that is made for the SS Performer from Weber. Replaced the wheels and the casters. Ordered new square end caps for the rails. And of course, replaced the charcoal grate and the cooking grate. Now my wife will finally quit telling me to "get rid of that piece of junk" I'm very pleased.

Fantastic.

I still think the red SSP is the height of the Weber art.  I'm going to cook mine right into the ground, and smile all along the way.
One of the charcoal people.
