Hey Guys, I have been looking for a Black SSP style lid in St. Louis area for a project. I've noticed that the handle on this type lid is a little taller than the standard 22 inch lid to make room for the metal piece that conceals the thermometer shaft. Has anybody tried cutting the handle at the center point of the top and re-bending to get the additional height for the thermometer? I know there would be a gap where the cut was added but the handle would cover this. Any thoughts?

Thanks
Steve

I have done this and even added the thermometer and shield. I dont remember exactly how/if I reinforced the metal but it works just fine. The porcelain will crack away so make sure you touch it up

Thanks for the reply. I'm happy to see someone has had success doing this. I may give it a try!
