..are these ceramic briquettes supposed to be used instead of charcoal or with charcoal?

If it is instead of, surely you won't get the same flavour meat as you would, if you bbq'd over charcoal briquettes?

I put ceramic briq's in my foil wrapped WSM water pan.  Acts like a heat sync / shield.  keeps my temps inline.  Drip pan goes in the basement.  Works for me...

Grill on!!
Lets just say I have acquired a few Kettles.  Big and small.   Vintage and New...  Some say I have a problem.  I find the Kettle, buy the Kettle, USE the Kettle...No problem...

I have had the same idea for my UDS with fire bricks (ie: for a kiln) but I will have to throw a couple in the kettle
