So I'll start by saying i ha d plans to build a mini ranch. That being said I will purchase a new 26 for this project.

Reason being is some massive winds last month flipped my 26 and lid across the concrete patio.  It's has some scars now but is and always has been a cooker.  I am sad about it but what can you do?  I'll tell you what.... Franken table!

I'm not gonna lie, it's ugly!  But well constructed and functional.  It was spur of the moment and done with materials on hand.

I'm gonna paint everything black and I took a piece of scrap aluminum home from work today that will be used as the new top.  Also took a 4x8 sheet of cutting board from work I will be incorporating into the table top.  I really can't wait to cook on this thing this weekend

That's not ugly at all! That's a damn fine looking start. Love the roominess of that prep table.

Where on earth do you work that has such wonderful "scraps"?

Not bad at all. Pretty nice for just being "thrown" together.

Very cool. Just curious, what do you do with the lid when open?

not sure yet.  I'm thinking when I put the aluminum top on I might be able to radius the end the kettles on and use the original lid bale if I make a stop for it at the bottom

You could go with a hinge. There was someone else on here that made a custom 26 table and put a front handle on the lid and used a hinge. Pricey if I remember right but might be worth it.

I've been thinking about doing the same sort of thing, but with a stainless steel table.  Just curious, @kemmons, what is the diameter of the hole that you cut in your tabletop in relation to width of the table?

That's awesome.  My fellow grillaholic and I were discussing merits of the 26 and decided it needs a table.  Nice to see someone making it happen.

the table top is 31" but the gap between the metal frame below is exactly 26".  So I cut the hole at 25" in diameter.
