This is how I install Brian's wooden lid rollers.  It works really well. 


There's a heat shield between the roller and the bowl.


Washers are tight against the bale nubs the length of rod in the bowl is minimized.  You could use a thinner "jam nut" to make the bit in the bowl even shorter.  That might require another washer or two on the outside.  I tried "acrorn nuts", they would keep the threads a lot cleaner, but they stuck into the bowl too far and interfered with grate removal and installation.


All stainless.


I used a 1.25" x 1/4" Fender washer.  You could use a 1" x 1/4" if you didn't want to the washer behind the bowl lip.
