Thanks all. One thing I wish I would have done is ask the story behind it. I contacted the seller yesterday right after it posted and she told me to get it the following morning at her garage sale. From the looks of the items, it looked like they cleaned the whole house out so I assume it was her parents that either moved or passed away. Just a guess because I basically paid her, said thanks and ran.
It looked like they gave it a decent cleaning so I didn't do a lot but shine it up a little.
One question I have is do you guys have the vent stops bent so they hit the stops or do you have them flat? These were flattened out and I bent them back. I assume that's correct? However I could see advantages to having them flat for future cleaning. Here are some pics. Also, the vents hadn't been moved for awhile. Took a minute to get unstuck. When I moved the top damper, broken pieces of porcelain started coming off. There is a spot missing right next to one of the holes under the damper.
Final question, what is the best way to preserve the missing spots of porcelain? I've been hitting the spots on my other kettles with cooking oil. Is that the preferred way?
