Nice Score! A 'Cado is on my hit list! Preferably a 22, but if an 18 comes up, I'm there.

Picked her up.  Not as good as the picture.  The front handle must have come off at some point. It was bolted on with rusty stove nuts and bolts.  Not sure if I should try to remove and replace with stainless. Also some hairline cracking in the bowl.

Wheels and Lid look pretty good.

It was the owners Fathers grill bought when they lived in Arlington Heights.

The owner called it his turkey cooker. It does have the charcoal barriers.

I'll post some pictures when I get home.

I am a little dissapointed. But I guess a 40+ yr old grill won't be perfect.

BTW, paid $35.00

Still looks & sounds pretty good to me.  I'd drop the 35 bucks on it if it were local.
I'd also swap the rusted bolts with SS
I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

I assume this is a 68-70 model.  It says patent pending and Bar-B-Kettle on the vent. An input on the age is appreciated.

As I previously mentioned, this grill was originally bought by a man living in Arlington Heights, IL.  His son brought it to Colorado.  They used this grill for cooking turkeys.   As you can see the bottom triangle is upside down.

Ok here's the photos.  These hairline cracks make me not sure I want to clean out all of the extra insulation from inside the bowl

Handle was very loose.  I cut the rivets and am working on it off the grill.  Probably by one from Brian when I make a big order.  Thanks Brian.

Here's the handle that the older man fixed after it came off the kettle.  I have already hit the rust drips with steel wool.  It will come off.  That is good.

Two of the three vents are not moving at all.   I plan to apply goo gone and later apply heat with a blow dryer to try to melt the turkey goo.   Any other suggestions are welcome.

That's pretty rough, you got your work cut out for you.   It would be a legendary restoration if you do get it done.  And that's what this place is all about:              Rescue, Restore, Respect (and Repeat)

Nice, that's just the way I like'em! I'm not really sure why. :-[ What I find really funny is that's exactly how the triangle was attached on my recent blue rescue. People  ::)

Craig

Thats a nice rescue! I always wonder why the old small turn tabs on the bowl vents almost always seem to be folded flat after so many years....my red 18 that I got from my Grandfather was that way to with the vents. Would JB WELD work on the broken handle?  :-\

So here's the Cado after doing some cleanup.  I was  able to get the bottom vents to break free.  Used a screw driver to pry around the edges.  Pulled the top handle and sanded, stained and sealed.

Still need to replace the bolts on the side handle with SS.  Hopefully, when I remove it some of the bowl does not come with it.

Still need to work on removing the rest of the rust from the triangle and clean up the ash pan.  I hate doing that.  It seams like such a waste to clean the ash pan.

Polished the vent with wd40 and 0000 steel wool. There is a little enamel missing under the lid vent.  I have never seen that before.

I really like the old wheels. They are real.

Cleaned the bottom and was able to break two frozen vents free.

I found a cover with another 22 I picked up today.  So the Cado is the first Weber I have to be protected with a cover.
