Hi all, I am new here, but recently purchased a new kettle about 4 months ago.  In the last few weeks after a few sessions  cooking pizza with a normal pizza stone at high heat over the grate, the grate has become discoloured and bits of it look copper coloroured.  I always keep it clean so the grates are silver in the most part but with copper areas if that makes sense.  Any ideas?

Hello and welcome. Honestly, it sounds like normal wear happening on the grates. High heat, smoke film, etc... happening. As long as nothing seems out of the norm, I wouldn't worry. Of course, you could always contact Weber.

Thanks I added a photo which might help, does this look normal?

Only problem I see is the grate is too clean. Need to get it greasy with some burgers and chicken

I don't think I've ever inspected a grill grate that closely.

I know that the regular grates that we buy are just steel with a plating over it. Not sure what "plated" metal that is. My uneducated guess is that's the plating coming off. You'll have some more fella's chime in shortly, but I wouldn't be concerned.
