Small or Medium Vortex for my Performer?

What are you guys using with your performer?  I am leaning toward the small since I read it will also work with an 18" kettle where the large looks like wont.  Also, who sells the Vortex cheapest?  Thanks in advance.

I have a medium that I use on my SSP. Love it. My only complaint is how much charcoal it uses. Would love to hear the opinions of anyone who uses a small vortex on a 22.

Well, ok. I have both.

Get the medium if you want to do a full styrofoam pack of wings, legs, or thighs. The Vortex is a supreme chicken part cooker. Fill it up with all lit, put the chicken around it, wait 25 minutes...done. You don't have to turn the chicken, I think that the bottoms actually cook faster. The medium just does a better job on the 22. And pretty good on the 26.

The small is just a little underpowered for the 22. Chicken does come out ok, but you don't get the same circulation and armhair removing heat as the medium.

I don't care about the  charcoal usage. It takes about 3/4 of a chimney to fill - and I revel in the heat and air circulation that the Vortex produces.

Safety tip: Don't reach over the Vortex. Walk around to the other side.

Or just use your charcoal baskets (if you have them) and save your charcoal grate from sagging.

I use the medium in my 22's, and a small in my 18. Great for cooking chicken as stated earlier, and pork chops! Either one does wonders for unwanted arm hair... :-)
Multiple kettles and WSM's. I am not a collector, just a gatherer... and a sick bastard.

Don't be tempted to reach across the grill using the baskets either.  I lost a hand from being vaporized.

I bought mine from Owens BBQ and got a free bottle of Tatonka Dust.  I just need to make the time to use them both.

I was tossing this question around too and finally ended up with the medium.  I'm literally using this thing every cook.  Definitely worth the investment! I still haven't pulled the trigger on a sns but it's next!
