Weber Charcoal Briquettes
« on: April 13, 2017, 08:17:38 AM »
I know Darko and I'm sure others had purchased some.
Does anyone have a consensus on how it compares?

It's available at Home Depot and Lowes for $19.99 for 20#
Coming on the heels of 2 fer deals for Kingsford and RO
that's a pretty steep price.

Howz it compare?

I went through a bag and like it. The larger briquettes seem to hold together well and the weather resistant re-sealable bag is a nice touch especially for those of us in wet climates. If you like using briquettes and experimenting with different fuels I would recommend trying a bag.

Personally I think Kingsford is garbage even at 1/2 price. It's like tear gas if you get a waft in your eyes, but I'm supposed to use it to cook the food I'm about to ingest? No thanks. Fine in a pinch but def not as a go-to for me at least. RO briquettes are a substantial improvement over Kingsford but not quite as "premium" as the Weber...

That being said at 2-for-1 RO vs Reg price Weber I would grab the Royal Oak deal.... Actually that's a lie... I'd just grab some lump ;)

I thought I was alone in my dislike for Kingsford; Stubbs is my regular coal and Care-Broil lump for my KJ.

Have you ever used Stubbs?  And if so, how does the Weber compare?

I got a bag to try out

I like them for grilling but I tried some snake method with it and I think the briquettes might be too big for that as they take a little to get going. Maybe if I played a little more with it I might have better results

But they definitely ash less and hold up better for a second burn

Now to just figure out a way to buy them a little cheaper

I'm hoping there will be Memorial Day or Fathers Day deals in their future.
I just don't see the masses of hot dog burners springing
for a $20 bag of briq's.

Weather resistant bag does sound like a nice feature but the price will have to come down for me to buy.

I really like the Weber briqs. But I do have an issue with the price and the fact that they seem harder to light.  I'll have to try the BBQ Dragon on them & see if it helps any.

I have and it's up there as one of my favorite briquettes. I would say they are quite similar performance wise but the Weber's don't smoke quite as much while lighting.

I've heard from a local hardware store that it is made by the same company that does the Kamado Joe charcoal.

I guess I'll just have to snag a bag and give it a go.
Like most of us I have almost a full pallet of various
brands of lump and briqs.  One more bag can't hurt.
(She didn't hear me say that, did she?)
