Get some Weber starter cubes. Those things light when you show them a picture of a match.
I've been using them on my non gas assist kettles and they are cheap enough that I'd rather use them than ball up charcoal bags or newspapers and deal with all the left over paper blowing around in the bowl.

I picked up some weber lighter cubes and tried them out last night. I just used one to light a half full chimney. I was very impressed. I used one cube on the grate and I lit it with the gas assist [emoji3].
They do work much better than newspaper. I'll use these in the non gas assist kettles.
