I went to buy a Smoke Master Touch up here for L.B.....and went through 4 of them to find each had porcelain issues. Pretty bad quality control. That some of these new Reds have similar issues is not surprising. What would be surprising is if there were not issues.

There are some pictures of poor quality porcelain on facebook too as well as some Weber Fanboys who have their noses so far up Mother Weber's ass that they just want to grill on.....and seem to want those with shitty quality grills to stifle any nay-saying about what they have too. I don't really care if something is made in China or the suburbs of Chicago.....I really don't. I just want quality...period. Am I a picky mother fucker...oh yeah.

We should all be so picky. $200 for a grill (porcelain steel and aluminum) it better be right.

Bingo.  Perhaps there will be a day when Weber goes the way of Charbroil.

Weber was sold to a private equity firm and not a venture capital firm.

Don't keep it. Try to get it replaced. Another call is another case to be made of how bad they are doing their customers now.

You can't apply porcelain enamel at home, and while no one, not even you, would ever see the insides of the sockets while using it, sockets take a LOT of abuse. Heat + movement = rust.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

I passed the hint to my wife that I would like one of these for Christmas showing her the new youtube video. Tonight I told her I wasn't interested now after showing her the pictures of the leg sockets missing the finish underneath and the grate straps that will rust through. She excepts my weberitis and never complains when I go buy something. She was shocked as her and family was already thinking they pitch in a little bit and get me a brand new red for Christmas.

I hope this is not Webers downfall, no quality control? This is what happens when outsourced, a damn shame to what could have been

Not to mention the environment that barbecues are used and typically kept in:  outdoors.  And that means moisture, so yes, it all adds up to rust.  Are the exposed metal areas likely to make it through the 10 year warranty period under normal use and storage conditions?  There could be a lot of warranty claims for barbecues falling apart in the year 7, 8, 9 period.

I have yet to see one of these red kettles in person.  I was thinking about buying one to go with the red Performer I have but I have reservations about it.  I think I'm going to give it some more time and see where things settle before opening my wallet.

My replacement LE Red that Weber sent out has minimal "under spray" inside the sockets. I am on record as saying that I am happy. I am looking forward to cooking on it and enjoying it for years to come. Also for those that are upset/criticizing/beefing/grousing about black speckles, under spray, over spray, red speckles inside the bowls or lids, black enamel on the outer bowl handle strap, these are ALL "imperfections" or flaws found on countless vintage reds as well as other color kettles. I find it interesting that these are acceptable on an older kettle that came out of the factory with similar imperfections but it's not acceptable with the new reds?? Also several of mine and others vintage grills have little to no porcelain inside the leg sockets. I think this thread is becoming a huge "piling on" of sorts and I find some of the comments (some previously deleted and some still on here to be off putting and not what we are about) . If you have the option to buy in store, inspect it on site. If you decide you don't like it, return it. I will say that my replacement kettle has a higher serial number so PERHAPS there may have been bugs to work out with the first series/production runs of this grill. Let's keep a good thought.

Cheers!

Critical reviews have hit Amazon product review, heads will roll at the Weber factory.

First year runs of products can be problematic.  I've seen it in other industries.  For the negligence and headaches caused for all involved, the manufacturer should bend over backwards to keep the consumer happy.  What I find off putting is a reputable company telling you that what you got is good enough.  Good enough is not what I expect from Weber.  I'm happy to pay up for good stuff, as I was taught from a young age that you get what you pay for.  When I do, I expect the quality to be there.  My red will arrive Friday afternoon.  We'll see what the unboxing reveals.

Thanks I was mistaken, concerns still still there.  I am hoping that Weber will still be Weber in 10 years.  Not sure at this point.

When I put mine together I went over this stuff like a fine toothed comb.  Issue is, now that I know there are "issue" I have preconceived notions.  It is difficult when you have those and try to look at something objectively.

When I look at some of the complaints like over spray in the bowl, really?  We love that in our old kettles, go back to orange peal we LOVE that, that is a manufacturing defect.

I think we need to be cautious as to what an issue really is, if 1 leg socket has is down to bare metal and the other two are cover nicely, I think this is something that Weber should recognize and replace.  However, if some have black on the inside and the red coating didn't cover it completely, I think we need to maybe back off that one.  Is it protected? looks like it has black porcelain in it.  Would anyone ever see it? No

I am very concerned with the direction that Weber is going, I got into this because I seek out products that stand above the rest.  I buy my cars that way and I buy appliances that way, the fact that there is a legacy and collectibilty behind Weber it makes it a hobby for me.  Something that I do not have with my excellent vitamix blender(another GREAT product).  That said, I please ask that we be very careful using preconceived notions then putting these together.

If you don't like that they are made overseas, the only thing I would say is it is probably a lay of the political landscape over the past 25 years more than the fault of Weber.
