Grillagin

Amazon shipped mine today.  Should be here on Friday.

I truly hope the grills are of quality, but one last comment if I may. If bowls and lids are being manufactured over seas, then in my opinion, it's only a matter of time before all are made there. Good or bad, they will not be the same and it closes a chapter in the weber book. I hope I am wrong.

I put mine together today, I really like the overall look of the red and black together.  I paid extra attention to the quality of the finish and while I do see some bubbling, I have decided it will be a part of my cookers.
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

Weber responded to my email with pics asking for my home address. We'll see how it goes. I took a closer look at my bowl. There is no porcelain under the straps and on the bowl inside the leg sockets. It is already rusting.

Weber overnighted me my replacement grill. I have to send the first one back. Weber CS tells me that there have been more than enough claims to warrant getting them back to inspect for QC. Had I gotten it used, the lid ding wouldn't have mattered. The replacement red appears flawless AND I haven't noticed any "under spray" like the first one. However the bowl handle strap is black where the handle itself goes but that's been seen on countless older/vintage red as well as other color kettles. I'll recheck the grate straps and report back shortly.

Maybe we are getting all the first runs and there were problems that got worked out in the factory.  Either way someone should have been doing a better job inspecting these.  Going to be a lot of sad people opening their holiday presents.

I just opened mine.  A couple things I noticed.....

The box was not opened and resealed as noted by some.

There is some very slight (couldn't get a picture of it)speckling around the upper side of the lip.  It's light enough I may not have noticed but since there have been many issues, I am going over this sucker with a fine toothed comb.

I'm at work so I have been unboxing on breaks.  I'll add any other issues I encounter.

So far, so good though.

First new Weber and the major part that concerns me is the leg sockets have no paint underneath and looks like bare metal. I have never taken the legs off of any grill sommaybe this is normal but it doesn't seem like it would be. Let me know what you think. $200 doesn't seem like a lot to some people but for me this was a major purchase and kind of expected better quality. There are some small black specks and bumps here and there as well. The one photo is the new lid on an old '77 grill I have which is a touch darker.

I have many grills with overspray.  None that I can remember with bare metal where the leg sockets are though.

Email those pictures to Weber. Rusty grate straps with paint missing isn't acceptable. And those sockets are a no-go also.

What I don't understand is why so many images shared here also show missing paint at the hole's edge where the One Touch sweeps go through. It's as if they used the hole as a support while painting the rest of the bowl, and the support covered up a little of the hole's edging. Even when applied properly, that area takes a ton of heat abuse and often chips.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch
