Twisted legs & hook?

Does somebody know about theese and why Weber produced them? Found today my 3rd like this.

Those were produced for the "German market" I don't know why exactly. I haven't seen them anywhere else.

The flat stock on the front leg reminds me of the base coving you would find at the bottom of an internal/external wall of a house.
Just enough to keep your feet out from under falling embers.

There's a post somewhere on here that discusses the legs. It started with pics from a European Fella. Haven't been able to track the post down, so far....

I sort of remember that post. But I can't recall the reasons behind that design. I don't think it was ever explained.

Here are two threads regarding kettles with the same legs and front piece. One thought was the design had to do with stricter European safety standards.  @Bob BQ

I've contacted people I know at Weber. Hopefully I'll get some definitive answers.

I bet they were playing around with stability, the bent legs defiantly are more stable due to a wider stance, but the hook.... maybe to help with potential tipping? just a theory

@Bertl - The green one in your picture has the front flat stock bent under. All of the other ones I have seen pictures of, that cross piece at the end of the leg is not bent under like that.



I think Lawrence hit it on the head as to what that front piece is designed for.

That clip pin looks like it can be pushed into the ground to prevent the kettle from rolling

Yes! I think you are right. I prefere the original style. That legs where built between 1981 and 1984. I know, because my 1980 and 1985 grills have the normal style. Thank you all!!
