Brian, have you ever thought about creating a wooden version of the top vent handle that intermittently shows up as available on some kettles?

Not sure how feasible it would be to make.

Heyjude

You find those plastic vent handles on OTG's and Performers..
If anyone can make one, it woudl be Brain. I'm thinking it could be doen in 2 pieces.
Drill a hole and use a small screw and nut to hold it.
Did I say I have thought of thsi before? Lol..
I don't care if you don't like my Avatar, its there for me..

I have thought about it.  I'm sure it could be done.  My only concern is that it is subject to more heat than the handle.  It prob wouldn't hold up as well.  I have been thinking about the handle on the table of an old performer, the one that opens the trap door,

Brian, let me prototype it for you.......  8)

there was a guy that had made one before (for himself)

he also made a wooden handle for the one-touch sweeper.

they looked amazing

i'd like one, as well as one to replace the rubber handle on the stainless steel access door on my old performer.

I think I saw the sweeper handle.  It did look excellent, but I thought it was a little 'large' if I recall correctly.  Talk about HOT, that part of my grill gets the hottest, because it is on the bowl next to where all my indirect coals go.  My idea for the ash sweepoer handle would actually be something that goes through the handle vertically.  Imaginf the backs of two handles sandwiched together and stuck through the existing OT handle.  Maybe shrunk in size a little bit.

Was that the red weber where he made the wood handles?

G$

Yep, you know the one.

These pictures are not the best, but I  found it:
