Sorry to hear about the ex-father-in-law, he must have been a cool dude to build that cart.  I hope you get it fixed up and show us the awesomeness!

Status report- got the frame brushed, blasted, primed and painted.

Blasted and painted one of the grates (the one I plan to use for the low pressure burner.)

Installed the new kettles and while not absolutely finished, it is at least operational.

Still have to work on blasting and painting grate for the high pressure burner side.

To top it off, my mom got me a q1200 for Christmas that will come in nicely for quick grilling steaks, burgers for the family etc., as well as camping, tailgating, and beach trips.

I'm impressed!

It looks really good!

Fast finish too...

What did you do with the old kettles?
You can't always get what you want....but if you try sometimes you get what you need

I still have them but not sure what can be done with them.

The lowers are each missing leg brackets and vent discs. One of the lids is missing a handle and starting the rust through on the edge. The charcoal grates and the grill grates are shot.

Oh goodie. I can't wait to hear the responses for what to do with the bowls. Dudes get real creative around here with shot kettles.
Grill cart looks fantastic, bud.

That's an amazing story and a great revival of a kick ass grilling station. Wonderful job.

I've seen you refer to 'low-pressure' and 'high-pressure' burners.  When it comes to gas grills, I'm only familiar with LPgas as a fuel source.  In fact, you show the bottle in one of your photos.  Here's my question...how do you get high or low pressure out of the gas bottle?  I understand the regulator controls the pressure, but I'm unfamiliar with getting different pressures out of the bottle.  How does that work?

Through the different kinds regulators on the hose. If you knocked the faucet off any propane tank, the gas would escape at a relatively high pressure.

It is my understanding that High pressure regulators are used for burners that will boil large amounts of water or grease, like for crawfish boils and fish fries

Low pressure burners are like those used on gas stoves that require less gas pressure to maintain a lower temp and more consistent flame.

It's all about the amount of gas, not pressure. I have a burner rated at 80,000 btu. I can make a pot glow red, or I can turn it down to simmer soup barely above boiling temp.

Way past my skill set.  Congrats, that is a thing of beauty.
The quality job you're doing on this is fantastic.  Envious!
