Made up a medium batch of ABT's at a buddy's request, for his company potluck (he thought it would be fun to put down Atomic Buffalo 'Turds on the sign up sheet, then he asked me!!)
Then, he failed to call about said items, so I got a bunch of 'Turds on my hands....... 8)

Dawgs wanted burgers, so......50/50 turkey & beef (eating healthier nowadays)...

Behold.....

Now how am I gonna melt cheese on this thing?

Worked out fine....no toothpicks were consumed..... ::)

Very nice!
I'm guessing the brick is used for two things, to retain heat and also a heat shield. (guesses, looking forward to the explanation)

The brick is so I don't have to fiddle w/ the flip grate to add wood chunks/ chips........it also props up the flipper to mount a second level for large loads...

there's two types of firebrick....one the  breathes heat thru & one that absorbs....these are the "absorb" type & they get hot.....no cooking above them, see here:

Those 5 were sitting on the upper deck above the brick......
