My first zavod44 handle?
« on: July 31, 2016, 04:41:32 PM »
Made a road trip for a couple of purchases today, one of which was a bowl and lid. The guy (Hi, Ben if you're reading this...) says something like "I don't know if you read any  message boards, but apparently there's some guy who makes these handles. It would probably be pretty nice if it was refinished."

So, I don't know if there's an age guide for @zavod44 handles. Are early @zavod44's a collector's item? :)

It came with the lid - believe he'd gotten a new bowl/lid through Weber's warranty.

What kind of warranty do your handle come with... :)

I'd give it a light sanding then a quick coat of stain or two.  It will have that old but new look.  Did that on my gas 99 three wheeler and it looks cool.

I'll definitely refinish it. Any more tips would be welcomed.

Just not sure what I'll use it on.

I think spar varnish is what a lot of people use. Maybe a light sanding, coat of stain and spar varnish? Sounds good to me.

Oh, also, if you wanted to make the weber and bbq black on the handle, kind of tape it off in that area, hit it with a coat of black spray paint, and then wipe across the top of the handle with a cloth sprayed with brake cleaner to get the black paint off.

Not responsible if you mess up your handle though  :)
