Injector advice needed
« on: November 08, 2016, 02:46:22 PM »
Looking to replace a cheap (now broken) plastic injector with something decent for occasional use. What are you using? What should I avoid? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I use the ones that came with the Cajun injector jars and I bought a "nicer" plastic one from target. They get the job done. One day I will order the all stainless steel one from cabelas.

I went through a couple of the plastic ones when I catered.
The stainless one I picked up for $15 has help up ever since.

I've always wanted one of the multiple needle rigs, but I just don't inject enough to justify.

I have the same one.  Don't use it very often but when I do it works great.  Actually used it last night to inject a bone on pork loin.  If you've never used an injector with multiple holes on the needle, make sure you think about what you are doing!   LOL.  I like to use the one hole needle to suck up my injection juice, then hold it needle up and swap out to the multi hole needle then inject.  This method allows you to then put the one hole needle back on to refill the injector without worrying about getting meat juices in your injection juice.

This doesn't sound very safe boss.
Once the multi-hole needle goes in the meat, the whole thing is contaminated - even the liquid inside.
Even with the needle swapping, the remnants of liquid inside will immediately contaminate any new liquid it comes in contact with - including your fresh liquid.

I have one of these, but it is a 4" model. I believe its an Eastman, it came with a perforated needle. I bought a couple of the Spit Jack needles that fit it. One is the Mini 1/8" with adapter.

So we use the Monoject 1.5" needles with the adapter on both the pistol and barrel syringe. Yeah don't share needles! Buy them by the box of 100!

I was looking for infos about injectors and came accross this topic. Could you please explain what is the issue here ? What is contaminated by what ?

Not sure I understand it, either. If a needle used only for pickup gets contaminated by meat juice, it's happening from the syringe somehow.

I use this one about 30 contests a year on pork and brisket. Heavy use. It still works perfectly after 3 years of use.

Gawd, I need to get bitly for my tablet!!!

Had this thing for quite a bit.
Not sure if it came from Cabelas as the logo and writing has worn off.
Works nice.  Make sure your injection has been strained.
We use cone style permanent coffee filters and toss them in the dishwasher.
Bed, Bath and Beyond, use those coupons!!!!
Longer, multi hole needles can be used.

Nothing is contaminated as long as you do all of the injections Pre cook.  I’d Never use the same liquid or injector needles mid or post cook.
